Human-Hippo Relationship in Selected Communities around Kainji Dam in New-Bussa, Niger State, Nigeria

Human-wildlife conflicts have become a significant issue in conservation and land management of protected area. The study examines Hippo-Human relationship selected communities around Kainji dam New Bussa, Niger State, Nigeria. Data for the was collected through pre tested structured questionnaires analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings from results revealed that male Hippopotamus is highest with 75.0% 37% were 50 years above. Majority respondents had no formal education (42.0%). 79% recorded present area while 82.0% to encounter attack. crops are mostly grown by Maize, Beans, Millet, Guinea corn, Rice Groundnut. In which maize raided Hippopotamus. findings 69.0% state crop raiding major conflict. Various preventive measures undertaken include: fire smoke, watch guarding, trapping, scare crow, thorn fencing hunting, smoke being most preferred respondents. victims these attacks willing prevent as against killing Hippopotamus, they should be encourage factoring compensation into policy promote this species
